It is incredible to witness – yet often these amazing women don’t prioritise themselves enough; feeling guilty about investing time in their health and wellbeing. But you can’t pour from an empty cup. I should know; my cup was beyond empty.
My health journey started in October 2020. I was constantly feeling tired, run down and knackered. My body felt creaky, I had no energy. I was constantly snappy with my two girls. I didn’t recognise the tired face staring back at me from all those business, family and friends’ zoom calls. I am 41 and was feeling more like 51.
Running around after two kids under six, running a home and building a business had taken it out of me. That was before the extra stress of living through a pandemic. I’d also forgotten the multiple conception traumas my body had gone through in the three years before kids. I needed to stop and give my body some serious love and support.
I had watched my sister’s transformation over the last five months. She had been taking clean non toxin nutritionals and a collagen supplement. Her results were speaking for themselves. Collagen is a hard, insoluble, and fibrous protein (called a triple helix) and forms a scaffold to provide connection, strength and structure. It contains an amazing 19 different amino acids, including arginine, glutamine, glycine, leptin and proline which help keep us healthy.

Glutamine has been identified as the key amino acid for preventing inflammation of the gut wall and strengthening the lining by healing damaged cell walls. A healthy intestinal barrier function allows certain gut-derived molecules to get into the body, while keeping the baddies out; helping prevent or treat leaky gut. This supports better immune and brain performance.
The amino acid glycine is important in forming muscle tissue, so helps improve muscle mass, which in turn helps boost metabolism. Glycine also helps slow aging overall by supporting posture, bone health, digestion, and even the central nervous system.
Proline is an essential amino acid for heart health. It helps clear fat accumulation in the arteries, repairs tissue within the joints and arteries, and helps control blood pressure. The amino acid Arginine also helps heart health with the widening of arteries and relaxation of blood vessels for better circulation.
Collagen also aids the digestive process because it is a hydrophilic molecule, meaning it has an attraction to water and acidic molecules. Ingested collagen surrounds itself with water and stomach acid as it moves through the gut, easing the passage of food through. It can promote the release of the hormone, leptin; which tells you when you are full helping prevent overeating.

The body naturally makes its own collagen by breaking down dietary protein into amino acids. The amino acids are what build the various types of protein in the body, including collagen.
