Day 1. Welcome to Entrepreneurship.

Monday 6th November 2017. 8.30am. I am sat at my kitchen table in Bermondsey, London. I open my laptop and tears start flowing down my cheeks.

Last Friday I finished my tenure as Global Marketing Director for a technology firm based in Old Street.

I quit a career I’d spend seven years cultivating. To do what? In truth, I have no idea what I am going to do. My gut told me it was time, and I just listened.

Over leaving presents and G&Ts, team hugs and farewells, the future looks exciting. But I have woken up without an identity. The enormity of what lies ahead weighs on my shoulders like great big sacks of sand.

Feelings of regret and panic wash over me in steady waves. I feel sick. Why have I given it all up? The career I worked so hard for? The late nights, the fights for pay-rises and promotions, the jetlag, the politics. It was all for nothing.

I can’t do this. Where do I even start? I can’t believe I gave up my career. This is going to be so embarrassing when it goes to shit.

I sob into my coffee. I start again.

(Almost) A Year On

Day 1 is hard. Day 2 is harder. Day 3 might be a good day. Then day 4 swallows you up again.

Founding a business is hard, definitely harder than I expected. Not the work part, grafting itself is the easy bit. It’s the emotions, the dreams, the setbacks, the changes in direction that become exhausting and taunt you into giving up.

It is without doubt that my situation took a positive leap forward when I connected with others in the same boat. My trajectory transformed. I was inspired, motivated, supported, hugged, heard, and valued. And I could inspire, motivate, hug, hear and value others too. Suddenly it all seemed a little easier.

In a digitised world that can be so isolating, real connection and collaboration is the key. And that’s what inspired us to set up Found & Flourish. We’re right here with you along your journey, because together we can all make it.

I can’t wait to meet you on your journey and hear about the great work you’ve been doing! Keep going, it’ll all be worth it!
