How to set yourself up for success! A September reset

Lara Sheldrake

Take a seat, grab a pen and notepad, got a drink? Cool.

Before you rush into September and the final quarter of the year, this little exercise is designed to give you the space to take a step back and reflect on what you want from the rest of the year.

My life and business changed dramatically (for the better!) when I spent some time reflecting on what I really wanted from my business and what wasn't working or no longer serving me. As they say 'knowledge is power', so take the time to evaluate these areas of your business and bring that knowledge to the surface so you can take action.

šŸ™Œ Your mission and values

Revisit your mission, are you clear on what you are doing and why? Have you articulated this to your audience or community recently? When it comes to your values these are your guiding principles and a great starting point if you ever find yourself having to make a tough decision in your business. Finally, have you got a roadmap for your business? Consider where you are now, where you want to be in the next few years and how you are going to get there. It also helps to know who you need support from in order for it to be a success.

šŸ† Success metrics

How are you gauging the success of your business? What does success look like to you? We spend a lot of time online and find ourselves adopting other people\s version of success, but does it look like to you and your life in general? More free time? A bigger team? Increased revenue?

šŸ™… Areas of resistanceĀ

What are you currently avoiding or procrastinating over? Consider the areas of your work life that are holding you back. What do you want to let go of? Consider the people you work with, the systems you have in place, the projects you're working on. What needs to change? What can you stop doing? Perhaps you can delegate some of these things?Ā

ā›°ļø Key challengesĀ

We all face daily challenges in our business, some big and some small. The trick is to acknowledge what these challenges are so we can resolve them as quickly as possible. What is playing on your mind or needs some attention in order for you to come up with the right solutions?

šŸ’” Techniques & solutions

Ideally you want to be working in your 'zone of genius', this is where you operate in a state of flow. If you're not in this space then the question is, why? And what can you do, delegate, ditch in order to have more time to work on the things you are naturally gifted at. This is where you'll find happiness, fulfilment and success. Consider the ā€˜four zonesā€™ by Gay Hendricks as a framework to follow.

āœ… Action points to take away

Now you have had some time to reflect on things and have a little reset, what do you need to do in order to move the need forward?Ā
